Henderson signs for Fury

Paul Henderson will join fellow former Bantams Paul Reid and Mark Paston in the A-League this season after signing for new club North Queensland Fury.

Henderson, who has been on trial with the Townsville-based outfit for the last two months, will be coach Ian Ferguson’s first-choice custodian ahead of Justin Pasfield.

“Paul’s experienced. I was happy with where he’s played in the past and the pre-season games he played,” Ferguson said in a media release.

“He’s a leader, a good shot stopper, he commands his box and he talks well from the back.

“I had a word with Justin (Pasfield) – he’s not far behind.”

Henderson, 33, who said he ‘was looking forward to coming back from playing overseas’, knows he will have to show the same form as he did in 43 appearances for Bradford City to keep the highly-rated Pasfield out of the team.

“It’s very difficult, because only one goalkeeper can play at once and Justin’s a very good goalkeeper. Fortunately it went my way this time,” Henderson said.

“I just have to do my job because Justin is a good keeper and he’ll be pushing me all the way.”
